In Absentia

This series of artworks were created as part of the Counter-Territories project run by Tajarrod, a research led Architecture & Art collective based in Benghazi, Libya.

The project began with a series of workshops and talks centred around the theme of counter-mapping, providing context to participants as well as allowing for group discussion. Participating artists then submitted short research papers and body of artworks that related to the topics discussed.

18 of these projects were then selected for a group show held at Barah Culture and Arts Organisation in Benghazi.

This short research paper looked into the increased populations of endangered wildlife within demilitarised zones comparing the Green Line on the island of Turkey and the DMZ in the Korean Peninsula. In both locations the removal of human influence from the area has allowed endangered populations to thrive, reclaiming the land.

The accompanying paper can be found here.
